VPS GUIDE FOR 24/7 AUTOMATED TRADING

Setting up a Virtual Private Server for your trading robots to ensure 99.9% uptime and zero latency.

What is a Forex VPS?

A Virtual Private Server (VPS) is a dedicated virtual computer hosted in a data center that runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Running your Expert Advisors on a VPS ensures continuous execution without depending on your home PC, power supply, or internet connection.

1. Why You Need a VPS for EAs

  • Continuous 24/7 Uptime: EAs never miss a trade due to local PC sleep modes, Windows updates, or power outages
  • Ultra-Low Latency: Data center hosting reduces ping times to broker servers from 100ms+ down to 1-3ms
  • Stable Internet: Redundant high-speed fiber connections eliminate disconnection spikes
  • 2. Selecting VPS Specifications

  • CPU & RAM: 1 CPU core and 2 GB RAM per 1-2 MetaTrader terminals; 4 GB+ RAM for 3 or more instances
  • Storage: 20 GB to 40 GB SSD is sufficient for MT4/MT5 installations and history data
  • Location: Select the data center closest to your broker's trading server (e.g. Equinix LD4 London or NY4 New York)
  • 3. Step-by-Step Setup Guide

    1. Purchase a VPS plan from a specialized forex VPS provider

    2. Connect to the VPS using Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) from Windows, Mac, or mobile

    3. Download and install your broker's MT4 or MT5 terminal on the VPS

    4. Copy your EA (.ex4 or .ex5) files into the terminal's MQL Experts folder

    5. Enable AutoTrading and attach your EA to the required charts

    6. Configure terminal auto-start so MetaTrader automatically launches if the VPS reboots

    4. Monitoring & Maintenance

  • Check terminal logs weekly to verify normal trade execution
  • Regularly clear unnecessary log and cache files to maintain VPS performance
  • Avoid running web browsers or heavy background applications on the VPS
